Goal

Training of specialists possessing advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in modern areas of biological sciences and biology teaching methodology, as well as skills in organizational and managerial activities.

Graduates are awarded the academic degree of Master of Pedagogical Sciences in the Educational Program 7M01512 “Biology”.

Masters of Pedagogical Sciences may hold positions in accordance with the Standard Qualification Characteristics of Pedagogical Workers and Equivalent Persons (as amended and supplemented as of July 22, 2022).

3.1 Key Competencies

As a result of completing the educational program 7M01512 “Biology”, the following key competencies are developed:

KC3. Competence in Socio-Pedagogical Activities:
3.1 Knows the main achievements, challenges, and trends in higher education pedagogy in Kazakhstan and abroad; understands the legal and regulatory foundations of the education system.
3.2 Applies knowledge of the fundamental principles, modern achievements, challenges, and trends in biology in the educational process.
3.3 Applies in professional practice the main international and national documents on the rights of children and children with special educational needs, and the values and principles of inclusive education.
3.4 Possesses the fundamentals of scientific-methodological and teaching-methodological work in higher education.
3.5 Develops and implements individually-oriented programs aimed at overcoming learning difficulties and adapting students to the educational environment; possesses skills in psychological diagnostics and scenario planning.

KC4. Competence in Organization, Planning, and Conducting Biological Research:
4.1 Uses various information and communication technologies, including Internet resources, cloud and mobile services for searching, storing, processing, protecting, and sharing information.
4.2 Possesses computer skills, including working in global computer networks.
4.3 Understands the basics of organizing and planning scientific research; analyzes, systematizes, and summarizes research results.
4.4 Applies modern methodologies to solve research problems.
4.5 Has skills in using software packages in computer science, applied IT solutions, and global Internet resources for effective work as a biological researcher.

KC5. Competence in Theoretical Biology:
5.1 Knows the conceptual and theoretical foundations of biology, its place in the general system of sciences and values, historical development, and current state.
5.2 Knows the structure, molecular organization, executive and regulatory mechanisms of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and general methodological approaches used in genetics.
5.3 Knows the molecular and genetic mechanisms of progressive evolution.

KC6. Competence in Bioecology and Bioresources:
6.1 Knows the principles of classification of living organisms, similarities and differences between taxa; analyzes phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary pathways of the plant world.
6.2 Has skills in identifying and describing biological diversity, assessing it using modern quantitative methods, and understands the importance of biodiversity for biosphere stability; can evaluate biodiversity status.
6.3 Can conduct monitoring studies to examine ecosystem stability and biodiversity conservation.

KC7. Competence in Applied Problems of Biology:
7.1 Knows the main problems of rational use of biological resources in Kazakhstan.
7.2 Knows the structural-functional organization, stability, and dynamics of biogeocenoses.
7.3 Develops measures for the conservation and restoration of animal biodiversity in Kazakhstan.
7.4 Has skills to justify the physiological foundations of practical measures for improving plant productivity and resilience.

KC8. Competence in Biology Teaching Methodology in Higher Education:
8.1 Knows modern educational technologies in teaching, applies knowledge, and models the educational process.
8.2 Knows methods for developing students’ research skills and language competencies.
8.3 Applies knowledge of theoretical and experimental foundations of biology and teaching technologies.
8.4 Possesses a system of methodological and pedagogical technologies and information on the current state of scientific foundations of higher education biology courses.

9.1 Applies scientific methods and techniques of pedagogy, psychology, biology, and socio-political studies, and summarizes research results.
9.2 Possesses methods of theoretical analysis of observations and experiments, and computer modeling techniques.

10.1 Can apply methods for planning and organizing research and techniques for data processing.
10.2 Independently conducts scientific research, provides logical reasoning for scientific conclusions, and summarizes research results in dissertations, projects, scientific articles, reports, analytical notes, etc.

KC11. Readiness for Teaching in Higher Education:
11.1 Understands the high social significance of the profession, adheres to principles of professional ethics, and can participate in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration to solve professional tasks.
11.2 Possesses methods for pedagogical modeling of innovative processes.

KC12. Competence in Modern Educational Methods and Technologies:
12.1 Analyzes the activities of all participants in the educational process and can collaborate with colleagues to improve biology teaching in classroom and laboratory sessions.

LO10. Conducts scientific research with subsequent summarization of theoretical and/or experimental results in the form of a master’s project, scientific article, analytical report, etc., to solve applied problems in biology, observing principles of professional ethics and academic integrity.
