Objective

Training of a primary and secondary school natural science teacher to ensure continuity in the development of students’ research skills, possessing pedagogical and natural science competencies in the field of conceptual and theoretical knowledge, conducting scientific research, and applying its results in science.

Competencies

3.1 Key Competencies

As a result of completing the educational program “Biology”, the following key competencies are formed:

KC1. General Educational Competence:
1.1 Knows and understands national policy and social priorities, as well as the historical and contemporary socio-political situation in the world and in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

KC7. Competencies in the Field of Pedagogy and Psychology:
7.1 Knows the theory of teaching, upbringing, and development, the specifics of updated secondary education, as well as elements of educational management.
7.2 Is able to apply approaches that take into account general and specific patterns (for various types of impairments) and individual characteristics of anatomical, mental, and psychophysiological development at different age stages.
7.3 Is able to use in professional activity the main international and national documents on the rights of the child and the rights of children with special educational needs, as well as the values and principles of inclusive education.
7.4 Applies criterion-based assessment methods and research results in the field of biological and pedagogical education in professional practice.
7.5 Is able to design and implement individually oriented programs aimed at overcoming learning difficulties and adapting learners to the educational environment.

KC8. Competencies in the Field of Theoretical Biology:
8.1 Knows the conceptual and theoretical foundations of biology, its place in the general system of sciences and values, its historical development, and current state.
8.2 Knows the patterns of development of the organic world, molecular foundations of heredity and variability, and methods of genetic analysis.
8.3 Knows the basic biological concepts, laws, and phenomena, as well as the history of development and the current state of biology.

KC9. Competencies in the Field of Bioecology and Bioresources:
9.1 Knows the features of morphology, ecology, reproduction, and geographical distribution of living organisms and understands their role in nature and human economic activity.
9.2 Possesses skills in identifying and describing biological diversity, assessing it using modern quantitative data processing methods, and understands the importance of biodiversity for the sustainability of the biosphere.

KC10. Competencies in the Field of Applied Problems of Biology:
10.1 Knows the composition of soil and its dependence on climatic conditions, types of anthropogenic impacts on soil, and methods for preventing negative effects on soil.

KC11. Competencies in the Field of Biology Teaching Methodology:
11.1 Knows the methodology of teaching biology, modern educational technologies, and applies knowledge of theoretical and experimental foundations of biology and biology teaching technologies.
11.2 Knows methods for developing students’ research skills and their language competencies.
11.3 Is able to model the teaching and educational process, implement it in educational practice, and apply new methods, forms, and means of teaching and upbringing, including in online mode.

KC12. Ability to Apply Theoretical Knowledge in Practice:
12.1 Applies scientific research methods and techniques in pedagogy, psychology, biology, and the socio-political cluster in practice and generalizes research results.
12.2 Possesses methods of theoretical analysis of observation and experimental results and techniques of computer modeling.

KC13. Readiness for Professional Activity:
13.1 Understands the high social significance of the profession, adheres to the principles of professional ethics, and is able to participate in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental cooperation in solving professional tasks.
13.2 Is able to apply modern methods and technologies for organizing educational activities, diagnosing, and assessing the quality of the educational process across various educational programs.

Learning Outcomes

LO1. Develop a personal moral and civic position by acting in accordance with the social, business, cultural, legal, and ethical norms of Kazakhstani society, using the fundamentals of socio-political, economic, and legal knowledge, and demonstrating personal and professional competitiveness.

LO2. Assess situations in various spheres of interpersonal, social, and professional communication in oral and written forms in the state, Russian, and foreign languages in order to develop language competencies.

LO9. Apply conceptual theories and laws of natural sciences to explain patterns of interaction between nature and society, and to predict natural phenomena and processes observed in everyday life

LO10. Use fundamental principles of natural science disciplines and current trends in the development of natural sciences.

LO11. Apply research outcomes in practice, taking into account global and local contexts, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

LO12. Create and propose solutions to non-standard problems, model and conduct biological and pedagogical research using academic writing skills and the principles of academic integrity.
