Purpose

Training a qualified biology teacher capable of using innovative technologies, including STEM, CLIL, and IT-based approaches in professional practice, possessing pedagogical and subject-specific competencies in conceptual and theoretical knowledge, conducting scientific research, and applying it in the field of science.

Competencies

3.1 Key Competencies

As a result of training in the “Biology” educational program, the following key competencies are formed:

KC1. General Educational Competence:
1.1 Knows and understands national policy and social priorities, as well as the historical and contemporary socio-political situation in the world and in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

KC7. Competencies in Pedagogy and Psychology:
7.1 Knows the theory of teaching, upbringing, and development, the specifics of the updated secondary education system, as well as elements of educational management.
7.2 Is able to apply methods for accounting for general and specific patterns (including for various types of impairments) and individual characteristics of anatomical, psychological, and psychophysiological development at different age stages.
7.3 Is able to use in professional practice key international and national documents on children’s rights and the rights of children with special needs, as well as the values and principles of inclusive education.
7.4 Applies in professional activities criterion-based assessment methods and the results of research in the fields of biology and pedagogy.

 

7.5 Is able to develop and implement individually-oriented programs aimed at overcoming learning difficulties and facilitating adaptation to the educational environment.

KC8. Competencies in Theoretical Biology:
8.1 Knows the conceptual and theoretical foundations of biology, its place within the overall system of sciences and values, as well as the history of its development and current state.
8.2 Knows the patterns of development of the organic world, the molecular basis of heredity and variability, and methods of genetic analysis.
8.3 Knows the main biological concepts, laws, and phenomena, as well as the history of the development and current state of biology.

KC9. Competencies in Bioecology and Biological Resources:
9.1 Knows the characteristics of morphology, ecology, reproduction, and geographical distribution of living organisms, and understands their role in nature and human economic activities.
9.2 Possesses skills in identifying and describing biological diversity, evaluating it using modern quantitative methods, and understands the importance of biodiversity for the stability of the biosphere.

KC10. Competencies in Applied Biology:
10.1 Knows the composition of soil and its dependence on climatic conditions, types of anthropogenic impacts on soil, and methods to prevent negative effects on soil.

KC11. Competencies in Biology Teaching Methodology:
11.1 Knows the methodology of teaching biology, modern educational technologies in biology instruction, and applies knowledge of theoretical and experimental foundations of biology as well as biology teaching technologies

11.2 Knows methods for developing students’ research skills and enhancing their language competencies.
11.3 Is able to model the educational and upbringing process and implement in practice new methods, forms, and tools of teaching and education, including in an online format.

KC12. Ability to Apply Theoretical Knowledge in Practice:
12.1 Applies in practice scientific methods and techniques of research in pedagogy, psychology, biology, and the socio-political cluster, and generalizes the results of research.
12.2 Possesses methods of theoretical analysis of observation and experimental results, as well as techniques of computer modeling.

KC13. Readiness for Professional Activity:
13.1 Understands the high social significance of the profession, adheres to principles of professional ethics, and is able to participate in interdisciplinary and inter-agency collaboration among specialists to solve professional tasks.
13.2 Is able to apply modern methods and technologies for organizing educational activities, diagnosing, and assessing the quality of the educational process across various educational programs.

Learning Outcomes

LO1. Develop one’s own moral and civic position, acting in accordance with the social, business, cultural, legal, and ethical norms of Kazakhstani society, using the foundations of socio-political, economic, and legal knowledge, while demonstrating personal and professional competitiveness.

LO2. Evaluate situations in various spheres of interpersonal, social, and professional communication in oral and written forms in the state, Russian, and foreign languages, using analytical and critical thinking to develop language competencies.

LO3. Use various types of information and communication technologies, modern methods of processing and synthesizing information in the fields of scientific and pedagogical research.

LO9. Apply conceptual theories and laws of natural sciences to explain patterns, phenomena, and processes in nature, forming a holistic understanding of the natural-science worldview.

LO10. Utilize the fundamental principles of biology and current trends in its development, including knowledge about the diversity, functioning, and evolution of biological systems.

LO11. Analyze the hierarchical organization of living nature, the biological nature and social essence of humans, demonstrating scientific understanding, ecological literacy, and genetic literacy.

LO12. Create and propose solutions to non-standard problems, model and conduct biological and pedagogical research using academic writing skills and principles of academic integrity.
